This page provides information on how to become an Appraiser in a secondary care setting. Revalidation Support Unit runs the Appraiser Skills Training Course which will give you the skills required to become a successful appraiser. It will cover your professional responsibilities, how to prepare for the appraisal, managing the discussion, how to give constructive feedback, revalidation requirements and dealing with difficult situations. In order to fully complete the course you must also complete MARS Appraiser Training. Information on this can be found at the bottom of the page.
The Appraiser Skills Training Course consists of two half day workshops with online learning to complete between each day. The online learning is known as Medical Online Appraiser Training (MOAT), which can be accessed here. The course is held in Cardiff, either as a morning or afternoon session.
The objectives of the course are:

MARS Appraiser Training
The course provides an overview of the functions of MARS for appraisers. The training lasts for approximately 1 hour including a demonstration of MARS and time for Q&A at the end. The training is delivered via OnSync webinar software and can be accessed anywhere with an internet connection and sound (headphones or speakers).
OnSync can be used on tablets and mobile devices by downloading a free app. It is led by members of the Revalidation Support Team (RSU) including the Quality Management Officer, Medical Appraisal Manager, Medical & MARS Administrator and CPD & Appraisal Training Manager.
Before attending a session, ALL attendees must watch the Appraisee Training video. This outlines the functionality for Appraisee role on MARS. Click here to access the video.
